Introduction:

Two years after the end of the Microsoft Windows 7 session, Microsoft has already announced that it will end security updates for your Windows 7 PC in early 2020. Microsoft recommends to upgrade your system to a newer version of its operating system, whether it's Windows 8, 10 or so.
NetMarketShare reports that nearly 50% of the world's desktops still use the Windows 7 operating system. With the end of Windows 7 support, organizations need to prevent security and compliance issues and to plan for the future by upgrading to Windows 10.
Microsoft will continue to offer support for Windows 7 until January 14, 2020. This means that Microsoft will provide solutions for security threats. However, the company will not offer any service packs, any new features or any solutions for bugs that do not cause security risks. After January 2020, Microsoft will no longer offer security patches.

Facilitating the upgrade:

Even a simple upgrade of the system can cause workflow stops and generate unexpected difficulties. With almost all parts of the business dependent on technology, business leaders should consider hiring a technology consultant to perform a compatibility review and guide the upgrade process of Windows 10.

Windows 7 as a target:

Because Windows 7 is so popular, it presents a desirable target for attackers who focus on vulnerabilities of the operating system. For example, almost all victims of the recent WannaCry attack used Windows 7. During the support phase, it is essential that companies install all security patches to defend against similar attacks.
To start, you have to make sure your company has installed Service Pack 1. Additionally, you will need to stay up-to-date with monthly updates. These updates are available through Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Microsoft Update Catalog.

Plan now for Windows 7 End of Support:

Although upgrading a home computer to a new operating system is relatively simple, migrating from an enterprise to a new platform can be complex. Some software and machines may not be compatible with Windows 10, for example. Third-party applications and custom programs may require a custom upgrade approach.
Migration to Windows 10 will require careful planning and preparation, including preparing users for changes.

1. Check all software devices and applications your organization uses to ensure compatibility with Windows 10.

2. Determine a strategy to resolve incompatibility issues. This will involve both time and budget planning, so start now.

3. Before updating the operating system, make sure that employees are properly trained on the new features. This may involve changes in workflows and requires adjustments to the security and privacy settings.
