Introduction:

Optimizing your browser settings is a critical step in using the Internet safely and privately. Today's popular browsers include built-in security features, but users often fail to optimize their browser's security settings during installation. Failure to properly configure the security features of your browser may expose you to a higher risk of malware infections and malicious attacks.

This article provides tips for securing your Google Chrome browser, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer. While it is impossible to guarantee complete protection against cyber threats, following these tips will greatly increase the security of your web browser.

Steps to follow:

The following settings are available through Chrome's "Advanced Settings" menu or by accessing Chrome >> Settings.

1- Enable protection against phishing and malware

To use these functions,
• Open the Browser "Settings" panel and scroll to the "Privacy" section (you may need to click Show Advanced to access it).
• Enable " Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors" and " Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors"
• Make sure you also enable "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites".

2. Disable Instant Search

The Instant Search feature must be disabled for optimal security. Although it offers some convenience in the search, if this feature is enabled, anything you type in the address bar is sent instantly to Google.
• To do so, disable "Use a prediction service to complete searches and URLs entered in the address bar" and "Use a prediction service to load pages faster"

3- Do not sync

Synchronizing your email account with your Chrome browser means that personal information such as passwords, autofill data, preferences, etc., are stored on Google's servers.
• Disable "Sync Everything" for all options.

4- Set Content Settings

Click "Content Settings" in the "Privacy and security" section and proceed as follows:

Cookies: Select "Keep local data only until you quit your browser" and "Block third-party cookies and site data". These options ensure that your cookies will be deleted when you leave Chrome and that advertisers will not be able to follow you - including cookies.
JavaScript: select "Blocked". It is generally recommended to disable JavaScript as much as possible in order to protect users from security vulnerabilities.
Pop-ups: Select "Blocked".
Location: Select "Blocked".

5- Set passwords and form parameters:

• Disable auto-fill and
• Disable "Offer to save your web passwords" in the "Manage Passwords" section. This will prevent Chrome from saving your credentials, passwords, and other sensitive information that you enter into forms.

Congrats! Now you have a more secure browser.
