Introduction:
If you want to install and run multiple operating systems, you do not have to run your computer in dual boot mode. Instead, you can use virtualization software applications that provide multiple benefits. You can install as many operating systems as your hardware allows, host virtual machines with Windows (including Windows XP) or other operating systems (such as Linux or Mac OS X), and manage disk space and the RAM to use.
We saw in a previous article how to install Virtualbox virtualization software on your PC.
In this tutorial, we will see how to use this software to install operating systems as a virtual machine.
Steps to follow:
1. Start the VirtualBox application from the Start menu.
2. Click New to begin creating a virtual machine.
3. Enter a name, select the type of virtual machine (Windows, Linux, iOS, etc.) and the version to install.
4. Once you select the name, type and version of the operating system click Next. The next screen will ask you to select the size of memory you want to dedicate to your virtual machine. The dialog box displays a range from a minimum allowed memory range to the maximum physical memory you have on the system.
5. Click Next
6. Next, It is recommended that you select Create Virtual Hard Disk Now then click Next.
7. You can now select the file type of your choice. It is recommended to choose VMDK file because it is read not only by VirtualBox but also by VMWare. This could be useful if you want to change the hypervisor. Once you have made your choice, click Next.
8. Then select your ISO file corresponding to the image of your operating system. The screen is thus modified:
9. Our virtual machine is now created and ready to start. Select it from the list and click Start!
The setup of your operating system will begin.
