Introduction

Search Everything is a search engine for Windows that replaces classic Windows search with a much faster search. Unlike Windows Search, Everything initially displays all files and folders on your computer. You can enter a search filter to limit the displayed files and folders. This application only uses file and folder names and usually takes a few seconds to build its database. 1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute.
Often, we want to have a program on our PC that can quickly index and display the search results of the local drive. Although the default search feature in Windows works well for Start Menu entries as well as your installed programs, it is not as instantaneous for the rest of the files and folders on your computer because this feature also indexes the contents of the files. Any search engine makes things simpler and much faster.
This Windows application is designed to allow you to search for files and folders anywhere on your computer and display search results in real time at breakneck speed, leaving everything on your computer with just a few keystrokes. The application reaches its impressive speed by indexing only file and folder names, ignoring the contents of the file.

Steps to follow

When launched for the first time, Search Everything Engine takes a few seconds to load a list of all files and folders on your computer and displays them in a single window. This initial indexing takes no more than a few seconds, even if you have hundreds of GB of files stored on your computer. Once the list is loaded, you can start typing anything in the search box to start filtering the results with the matches being displayed in real time as you type. For all items displayed in the list, the application defaults to its name, path, and modification date but you can customize these columns to include other information such as size, extension, type and more by clicking simply on column headers and selecting the desired information.

There is another very interesting feature in this application: search filters that help you to define specific search parameters to refine the results.

You can choose from a few predefined settings such as audio, compressed, document, executable, folder, etc. or set custom parameters of your choice. In addition, you can click on the Search menu and select the word matching option from the entire word, path, case or diacritics. Leaving one of the above mentioned disabled options displays all the results. The application also allows you to search using regex queries (regular expression).

Another interesting element that I found was the bookmark feature. Bookmark allows you to add search queries as bookmarks, which means you do not have to type the same search title multiple times each time you want to do the same search. The "New Bookmark" window, accessed by clicking Bookmark> Add to Bookmarks, allows you to specify different settings for your query. As an added benefit, you can even assign keyboard shortcuts to specific bookmark queries.
