Introduction

Finally, the virtual desktop feature has been added to the Windows 10 version as a main feature. This already existing option in Linux and Mac OSX, offers the possibility of multiplying the work environment by creating virtual desktops that can quickly and easily create an unlimited number of virtual desktops and quickly switch from one desktop to another. This option facilitates the organization of different work environments, games, videos, etc. The idea is to group all your Internet windows on one desktop, one group with your windows working on another desktop, another with your web games, and so on. This helps to lighten the main office, and better organize the environment.

Steps to use the virtual desktop feature

Here's how to create and use virtual desktops.

Step 1: Click on Task View. (Two rectangles superimposed in the taskbar)

Step 2: In the Task View pane, click "New Desktop" to add a virtual desktop. You can also quickly add a desktop computer without entering the Task View pane by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Windows + D key.

Step 3: Switch between applications to use on this desktop.
To switch between virtual desktops, click the Task View pane and click the desktop that you want to switch to. You can also quickly switch desktops without entering the Task View pane using keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Windows + Left Arrow and Ctrl + Windows + Right Arrow.

For now, you can add an unlimited number of virtual desktops - I stopped at 368 - but there does not seem to be any way to quickly switch to a certain computer without cycling through all the keyboard shortcuts. The Task View pane displays only nine workstations at once and has no scrolling functionality, which is likely a bug that will be fixed in the final release of Windows 10.

Step 4: Move the windows between the different desktops
To move a window from one desktop to another, you must first open the Task View pane, and then move the relevant window to the desktop containing the window you want to move.

Step 5: Close a desktop

To close a virtual desktop, open the "Task View" pane and hover over the desktop you want to close until a small X appears in the upper right corner. Click on the X to close the desktop. You can also close the workstations using the keyboard shortcut tasks Windows + Ctrl + F4 (this will close the desktop you are currently using).
