How to find your start menu in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

If you feel lost with the new interface of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and you cannot find your old Start menu, do not worry; You are not the only one. Thousands of users say that the Classic Start menu provides a more compact, concise, and customizable list of programs and files than the mosaic-filled Start-up screen.

The Start button and the classic Start menu are no longer in Windows 8. If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 today and you would like to find the Start menu of Windows 7, we will show you in this article how to find it.

Steps to follow

1- Download Classic Shell from the following link
2- Start the software installation. the installation wizard will ask you what should be installed with four options. The first is Classic Explorer, then Start Menu, Internet Explorer 9 and the update function.

If you do not like to change Internet Explorer, for example, click the option next to it and select "Entire feature will be unavailable" to make sure it will not be installed.

3- During the installation, the settings menu will be displayed. Note the two sections on the bottom indicating "Basic Settings" or "All Settings".

Basic Settings offer simple changes like changing the appearance. Additional features can be found under the "All Settings" section as below.

Before making any changes, note that it is advisable to make backups before making any changes. Classic Shell offers very deep customizations found in several menus.
The "Backup" setting at the bottom of each tab allows you to export settings to an XML file, restore backups, or reset all settings.

The first tab for both sets of options is for the "Start Menu Style". A window will be displayed that allows you to sleect the first settings by choosing among other things the start menu style you like: classic menu, two-column menu or Windows 7 type menu.

The default button is Classic Shell, but you can choose another button in the program options or, if you wish, to customize it with an image of your choice.
Note: If you are running Windows 8.1, the "Start Menu" icon will be used directly by Classic Shell.

Thus, to reach the settings of the program, it is enough to right click on the start button to open the window of Classic Shell, then to choose settings.
