Introduction
A Windows 7 System Repair Disk gives you access to the Windows 7 system recovery options, a powerful set of diagnostic and repair utilities created by Microsoft.
The first thing a new Windows 7 user should do is to create a system repair disk. With a system repair disk, you'll have access to Windows 7 diagnostic tools like Start-up Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostics, and Command Prompt.
How to create a repair DVD for Windows 7
Steps to follow
1. Click Start >> Control Panel >> System and Maintenance
2. Next, click on Backup and restore.
Note: An alternative is to run recdisc from the Run box or from a command prompt window. If you do that, you can go directly to the step below.
3. Click the Create System Repair Disk shortcut in the left pane of the window.
4. Next, choose your optical disc drive from the Drive: drop-down list.
5. Insert a blank disc into your optical drive.
Note: An empty CD must be large enough for a system repair disk. I created a Windows 7 system repair disk on a new 32-bit Windows 7 installation and it was only 145MB. If you have a DVD it will be fine.
5. Then, Click the Create Disc button.
Windows 7 will now create the system repair disk on the blank disk that you inserted in the previous step. No special disc burning software is required.
6. After the creation of the system repair disk is complete, Windows 7 displays a dialog box that you can close by clicking the Close button.
7. Click the OK button on the Create System Repair Disk window, which now appears on your screen.
8. Label the drive as "Windows 7 System Recovery Disk" and keep it in a safe place.
