Introduction:
Since 2006 any Mac is 64 bits. Since Mac OS X 10.6, computers can use 64-bit to perform better. Simply, some Macs run on the 64-bit kernel by default, while others work on 32-bit.
If you do not know if your Mac is 64-bit or not, the easiest way to check is to find the type of processor on your Mac, and the easiest way is to scroll through the Apple menu and click "About of this Mac ", then look at what is indicated next to" Processor "
How to tell if your Mac is 32-bit or 64-bit
To determine the type of system for Mac OS X, there are two methods:
Method 1
1. Click "About this Mac" from the Apple menu (the apple at the top left).
2. Then select "More info".
3. Click "Software" in the Content pane.
4. Under the heading "Overview of System Software", check the "Core and 64-bit extensions" option. If it is on "yes", you use 64 bits, otherwise you go for 32 bits.
Method 2
1. Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
2. Click the System Report button. If you do not see the System Report button, click the More Info button, and then click the System Report button.
3. Under the Hardware panel, look for the name of the processor in the hardware overview.
