Introduction:

This article explains how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2016 on a Windows computer to send and receive e-mails for an e-mail mailbox that you have created, using a POP3 connection.

There are two ways to configure Outlook 2016:

E-mail account and manual or automatic configuration.

Read below for step-by-step instructions on the different Outlook 2016 configuration methods:

How to configure Outlook 2016

Configuration of the e-mail account

Follow these instructions to set up an email account with Outlook 2016:

1.    Open Outlook and select Email Account. If the Add Account panel does not appear, you can select File> Add Account.

2.    Enter the necessary information, and then click Next:

3.    Outlook will now attempt to find the necessary settings to configure.

Note: This step may take several minutes.

4.    If prompted, click Allow to allow Outlook to configure your Outlook server settings.

5.    This configuration process will configure most of your settings, however, there is a setting that the system will not configure. Add a root path to ensure that all your folders and messages are properly synchronized with the server.

6.    When the installation process is complete, select Edit Account Settings. Then click Next.

8.    Select the Advanced tab and enter Inbox in the root folder path.

9.    Click OK to return to the POP and IMAP Account Settings panel.

10.    Click the Finish button to close the panel.

11.    Your email account is now configured. You can start using Outlook 2016.

Manual configuration or additional server types

Follow these instructions to set up an email account with Outlook 2016 manually or by using additional server types:

1.    Open Outlook and select Manual Configuration or Additional Server Types then click on the Next button.

2.    In the Choose a Service pane, select POP or IMAP, and then click the Next button.

3.    In the POP and IMAP Account Settings panel, enter the user, server, and login details, and select Additional Settings.

4.    Additional Settings will appear a new window that has three tabs. Select the Outgoing Server tab.

5.    On the Outgoing Server tab, select My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication. Then select Use the same settings as my incoming mail server.

6.    Select the Advanced tab in the same pop-up window.

7.    Change the outgoing server (SMTP) port to 587 and enter Inbox for the root folder path. Then click OK to continue.

8.    You will be redirected to the POP and IMAP Account Settings panel.

9.    Click the Next button.

10.    Outlook will then try to test the settings of your account. Let the process finish until the Congratulations panel appears. Then click the Close button.

11.    Click Finish.

12.    Your email account is now configured. You can start using Outlook 2016.
