Introduction:

When you delete a file, it is not really erased - it still exists on your hard drive, even after emptying it from the Recycle Bin. This allows you (and others) to recover the files you have deleted.

If you do not pay attention, it will also allow other people to recover your confidential files, even if you think you have deleted them. This is a particularly important concern when you dispose of a computer or hard drive.

In Windows 10, administrators can use the Cipher.exe command to encrypt and decrypt data on drives using the NTFS filesystem and to view the encryption status of files and folders from a command prompt window. An updated version of the Cipher tool has been released for Windows 2000 and is included with Windows XP. The updated version adds another security option.

This new option overwrites the data you have deleted so that it cannot be recovered.

How to prevent recovery of deleted files in Windows 10

1. In Windows 10, you have deleted files and emptied the trash. Close all open windows.

2. Next, right-click the Start button and click Windows PowerShell (admin).

3. Next, type the following command cipher / w: c:
You must replace c: with the drive whose empty space you want to clean. Confirm with the Enter key.

4. Finally, you will find that data is then added and erased in the space where the deleted files were, making their restoration unrealizable.
