Introduction

Your laptop does not have a DVD drive/burner and you want to install or repair an operating system? You do not want to manipulate your DVD at the risk of damaging it? So you can use your USB key, it's simpler, faster and more economical. Here are the steps to start your computer from your USB key.

 

Prerequisites

 a formatted USB key (the size needed depends on the size of the distribution or utility that will be installed).

• an ISO image.

the Unetbootin software. 

Steps to follow

Insert your USB key.

• Open the Unetbootin software (this utility is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS), it does not require installation: http://unetbootin.github.io/

• Choose the desired OS. (Take the example of Windows, click download (Windows))


• Select "Image Disk" and choose the ISO file on your pc.

• select "USB drive", then choose the USB stick to make bootable example D:, E: F:, ...). All you have to do is wait until UNetbootin does its work.


• restart your computer by keeping connected your USB key. (If you do not have the possibility to start your computer from the USB key, access your boot menu (Bios) and try to find the boot parameters (boot order or boot settings configuration or equivalent). select your USB key as the disk to boot into first and press the ENTER key to confirm).
