Introduction

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is a set of functions, stored in the ROM of the motherboard of a computer, allowing it to perform basic operations when it is powered up.

It is an interface accessible to the start of the computer at the touch of a button. It is generally used for configuration.

New computers start using the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware instead of the traditional BIOS. The EUFI allows you to override some BIOS deadlocks.

In this article, we will see the differences between the two programs.

Comparison between BIOS and UEFI

Operation

 A_BIOS:

· This is the first program that runs when you turn on your computer.

. It is stored in the ROM of the computer's motherboard.

.It runs and loads all base devices, the boot loader, and the boot order to load the operating system.

.It requires your hard disk to use the Master Boot Record (MBR) partitioning table.

 B_UEFI:

· This is a program stored in the flash memory of the motherboard.

· It allows:

. Disk management of more than 2.2 TO.

          . Support for network features.

          . Management of 64-bit architectures.

.A faster boot of the computer.

· It requires your hard disk to use the GUID Partition Table (GPT) partitioning table.

The main parameters

A_BIOS:

· Standard CMOS Features: allows you to set the date, time and specifications of your hard drives and drives (CD / DVD drive, card reader ...)

· Advanced BIOS Features: Contains editable parameters such as the boot order of devices.

· Integrated Peripherals: Contains the settings for the devices built into the motherboard.

 B_UEFI:

· Main: Contains the global information of the system.

· Advanced: Contains processor settings.

· Boot: Set the boot order of the devices, the logo display, the numeric lock ...
