How to tell if my PC is running in UEFI or BIOS mode

  190727 Monday, July 30, 2018

  •         Introduction

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is a set of functions, stored in the ROM of the motherboard of a computer, allowing it to perform basic operations when it is powered up.

It is an interface accessible to the start of the computer at the touch of a button. It is generally used for configuration.

New computers start using the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware instead of the traditional BIOS. The UEFI overcomes certain obstacles of BIOS.

In this article, we will see if our operating system is in BIOS mode or UEFI mode.

  •         Method to follow

  •          Write «run »in the search bar.
  •          Type the command "  msinfo32  " in the Run dialog box :

  •          Click on "input" and check the " BIOS mode  " line:
  1.    If the word “legacy” appears, then you are in BIOS mode.

  1.    If the word UEFI appears, then you are in UEFI mode.
