Define a partition as read-only
1. Open the command prompt as an administrator, and then run the diskpart command.

2. Type list volume and press Enter. Then type select volume #, where # is the ID of the disk partition that you will lock read-only.

3. To make the volume selected read-only, type attributes volume set read-only and press Enter.
4. Now you will not be able to delete or modify the files on this partition. When you try to format this volume, you get the error "The disk is write-protected".
If you want to clear the read-only attribute for your volume later, simply repeat steps 1 through 2 above, and then run this command: attributes volume clear readonly
Define a read-only disk
If you want to set the entire disk to read-only, do the following:
1. Open the command prompt as an administrator, and then run the diskpart command.
2. Type list disk and press Enter. Then, type select disk #, where # is the disk number you want to read-only.
3. To set the disk to read-only, type disk set read-only attributes and press Enter.
4. Your disk is now write-protected and all of its partitions become read-only.
When you want to clear the read-only attribute of your disk, just repeat steps 1 through 2 above, and then run this command: attributes disk clear read-only.
