Introduction:

Over the years, Microsoft has learned that many common Windows errors and problems are due to outdated drivers. Since most users never try to download and install the latest drivers, Microsoft has automated the work of updating popular hardware drivers in Windows 10.

Unlike previous versions of Windows, the new Windows 10 automatically downloads the latest hardware drivers through Windows Update and tries to keep the installed drivers up-to-date.

While this is an excellent choice for Microsoft, since most users never care to manually update essential drivers for optimal performance, new drivers sometimes arrive with their own set of problems.

Sometimes, after updating a driver, your hardware may not work as it should. For example, your touchpad may stop responding after installing the latest driver via Windows Update or the manual method.

If you have problems after installing a newer version of a specific driver, you can always go back to the previous version of the driver in a few clicks without having to manually download the previous version of the driver.

2. Steps to follow

Follow the instructions below to restore the previous version of a driver in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7.

How to restore the previous version of a driver in Windows 10

1. Type Device Manager in the Start menu search box and press the Enter key to open the Device Manager window. You can also type devmgmt.msc in the Start menu or Run command search box, and then press Enter to open it.

And if the Restore Driver button is grayed out, it means that the previous version of the driver has been removed from your PC or the driver has not been updated.
In most cases, the cancellation will be done in a few seconds. If you are prompted to restart, please do it once.

5. After the previous version of the driver has been restored, make sure to stop Windows 10 from automatically downloading the new driver version by disabling automatic driver updates.
