Introduction:

When you add a new account to Windows 10, you notice that its user avatar displays a gray background with a white curved outline. This profile image stays the same until the user chooses to change it or until the image of their Microsoft account synchronizes. But if you have administrative rights on your PC, you can easily set the default account image to all Windows 10 users on the PC. By normalizing this image, other users of your computer will not be able to edit their profile picture. The operating system allows you to perform this task through Registry Editor. Here are the steps to follow.

Steps to follow: How to set the default account image to all users in Windows 10

The user's image is always visible on the Start screen and in the Start menu in a small round-shaped thumbnail. If the user has a Microsoft account, the same image is downloaded to all Microsoft servers like Office 365, Onedrive and others. The operating system automatically synchronizes this user photo on all devices that use the same account. So, here's how to use an image as the default profile photo for all users.

1. Go to the Cortana search box next to the Start menu and type regedit. Press the Enter key and it guides you directly to the Registry Editor.

2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following path in the left pane:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion PoliciesExplorer

3. On the right pane of the window, right-click on an empty area. Hover over New and click DWORD Value (32-bit) as shown in the image below.

Note - When running 64-bit Windows, creating 32-bit DWORD is the same.

4. Name this DWORD as UseDefaultTile and double-click it.

5. In the Value Data section, assign 1 and click OK to set the default account image for all users in Windows 10. Finally, restart the PC and you will notice that the changes are effective.

Note: To restore the changes, set the value to 0, then you can edit the account image to your preference.

You have an alternate technique that can easily set the default account image for all Windows 10 users. Using the Group Policy Editor and enabling a specific policy will do the same.

The default account image (gray background and white outline) is used as a user profile image when you add a new account in Windows 10. Microsoft synchronizes this same photo with all associated accounts and attributes. By using two different procedures, you can easily set the default account image for all Windows 10 users. This will also prevent users from modifying the image later.
