Windows 10: Backup and restore your Start menu

Sometimes, before formatting your PC, it may be important to save the tile layout of the Windows 10 Start menu to restore them afterwards. Indeed, if you want to do a complete installation or you want to migrate your settings to a new account to avoid the loss of time and find your interface in minutes, without having to do it again by hand.

We will see in this article how to backup and restore the Start menu of Windows 10 in a few clicks.

First step:

To activate the Administrator account by pressing the Windows + X keys simultaneously, then click Computer management

1- Select Local Users and Groups, and then select Users
2- Double-click the Administrator account
3- Uncheck “This account is disabled”

4- Click Apply and then OK

Second step:

Consists of backing up your Windows 10 start menu
It is necessary to save the TileDataLayer folder of the account where your start menu is set.
1- Log out of your account
2- Log in with the administrator account
3- Open the File Explorer
4- Click on the View tab
5- Check Hidden items.

6- Navigate to C: Users > username > Appdata > Local > TileDataLayer (replace the username with your account name)

7- Copy the Databases folder

8- Paste the file directly on your new session or on a USB stick and put it on your new computer.

Third step:

Restore the Windows Start menu to a new system.
1- Create a new account if you have not already done so,
2- Then, access the TileDataLayer folder of this new account from the administrator account.
3- Replace the TileDataLayer folder with the one you already have on your USB flash drive.
4- Restart your computer.

By logging in to your new account, you should find your personalized Start Menu!
